Objectives: 1. Students will understand the process for scheduling conferences. 2. Students will take the invitation home, get their parents to choose times, and bring it back as soon as possible. 3. Students will vote for ASB candidates. Activities: 1. Discuss the process for scheduling student conferences. 2. Hand out the invitations to students. 3. ASB Voting Notes: Conferences are required to pass advisory but the student’s attendance is the only requirement – if parents cannot attend that will not prevent a student from passing. If a student misses a conference, they will need to make up that conference at a time that works for you. If you cannot find a time before the end of the school year, conference make-ups will occur with an administrator at an agreed upon date. Activity #1: SLC Scheduling 1. Explain to students that they will be asking their parents to sign up for a desired time to come to their student’s conference. The parents need to pick three different times that work for them over the two days, June 6th and 7th. The student will bring back the invitation and the teacher will schedule a conference for one of the times listed on the invitation. The teacher will then fill out a confirmation card with the time and address and send it to the office to be mailed.
*If a parent has more than one child, they may want to indicate that on the invitation so teachers can try and schedule their conferences back to back or within the same hour if possible. Activity #2: Hand out SLC invitations 2. Hand out an invitation to every student. Go over the invitation to make sure students understand what their parents need to do and remind them to bring the invitation back to you as soon as possible. They can leave it in your box in the office also. It may take two or three advisory classes before you get all of the invitations back (you may have to do some reminding). *If you do not get an invitation back from a parent by May 22nd, you will need to schedule a time with the student alone, as they are the only one who must be there to meet the requirement for the conference. Students are more than welcome to invite any caring adult: a teacher, coach, counselor etc. if their parents cannot attend. Activity #3: ASB Voting
There is NO video to show - Just a ballot for your students. *Each grade will be voting for a different number of students based off of spots available!*
After advisory, you will need to send the completed ballots to either the NORTH or SOUTH office.
Please recycle BLANK ballots! |
