I would like to round up some seniors from Student Council, Cheer, Newspaper, and Link Crew to be here at the celebration outlined below. If they had some ideas about college would be helpful just in case they have questions thrown at them by our guests. Not sure that they will, but wanted to make sure we are prepared. If you can send me their names ahead of time, so I can make sure all students here have a photo release on file here for photo ops. Of course, you are welcome to join if you would like. Students will likely be in pictures and I know that is homecoming week, so maybe thinking just wear Scots gear with homecoming fun stuff to change into afterwards. Over the years, the College and Career Center at David Douglas has cultivated a tremendous relationship with Portland Leadership Foundation for the Act Six Scholarship. We have been the home site for the Phase II portion of the scholarship (which is more than 200 kids), as well as, their Dessert Celebration. With this partnership, a grant opportunity fell into our laps last school year. Act Six helped match our school with local 7-Eleven stores committed to supporting college readiness through 7-Eleven's Project A-Game program. David Douglas High School was matched with 15 nearby 7-Eleven stores and has been awarded the largest amount of funds out of all the partnering schools. We are being awarded $6172.00. We have some really exciting ideas of how to put these funds to good use this year! We will be hosting a check presentation/celebration with 7-Eleven and the participating store owners that are donating funds on October 5th, 2016 from 8:40-9:10am in the College & Career Center (room 124). We would love for all of you to be there to celebrate with us! Be ready for a photo op! |
